Personalized Lens Fittings in Virginia & Tennessee

Wearing contact lenses should feel easy and natural. That starts with an exam that looks at how your eyes work. At Envision Eye Care, we take time to understand your daily routine, comfort preferences, and vision needs so we can match you with lenses that support your lifestyle. Whether you’re brand new to contacts or updating your prescription, our eye doctors guide you through the process with simple explanations and personalized care.

A Contact Lens Exam vs. Standard Exam

A standard eye exam checks your overall eye health and determines your prescription for glasses. Contact lenses sit directly on the surface of your eye, so we must ensure they fit safely and comfortably and support clear vision throughout your day.

We take additional measurements of your cornea, pupil, and tear film to ensure your lenses fit your eyes precisely. Like a normal exam, we evaluate the health of your eyelids and ocular surface, since even mild irritation or dryness can affect how lenses feel.

Afterwards we perform a trial fitting, allowing you to try lenses on in-office to ensure the fit, movement, and comfort are all just right.

What Happens During Your Contact Lens Exam

Our eye doctors want to make sure they fit comfortably, stay stable, and support long-term eye health. During your visit, we may:

  • Talk about your daily life: Your job, hobbies, screen time, and routine help us determine which type of lens will feel best for you.

  • Check your eye surface and tear film: This helps us understand whether dryness or irritation might affect lens comfort.

  • Measure your corneal shape using corneal mapping: This advanced scan creates a 3D map of your eye’s surface so we can choose lenses that match your eye shape perfectly.

  • Screen for ocular surface diseases: Identifying issues early helps us choose lenses that protect your comfort and vision.

How Often Do You Need an Exam?

Even if your vision seems stable, it’s important to have a contact lens exam every year. Contact lenses rest on delicate eye tissue, and yearly exams help us make sure your eyes stay healthy and your lenses continue to fit comfortably.

If you ever experience redness, discomfort, blurred vision, or a sudden change in how your lenses feel, we encourage you to schedule a visit sooner.
